ATHENA International Leadership Award® Program

The ATHENA International Leadership Award® Program was developed to recognize and honor outstanding business and professional individuals for excellence in their chosen fields, for providing valuable service to their community and for actively assisting women in their attainment of professional goals and leadership skills.  The purpose of the event is to build awareness of and honor the contributions being made by leaders in the Rutherford County community.  Both the ATHENA Award and ATHENA Young Professional Leadership Award will be presented at this ceremony.

 
About Martha Mayhood Mertz

Martha Mayhood Mertz is the founder of the ATHENA International Leadership Award® Program.

Mertz created the ATHENA Program in 1982 through her partnership with the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce in Lansing, Michigan.  The Award’s purpose is to recognize the community’s outstanding professional and business women and advocate for opportunities for them to move into leadership positions.

The author of Becoming ATHENA, Mertz is a recognized expert on women and leadership and an internationally sought-after speaker.
